Massey Ferguson 08.X.1B – HITCH module (Electronic Lift Control / EHR): Mud Guard Rear Hitch Buttons Signal Voltage Issue

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected an incorrect, missing, or shorted voltage signal coming from the external 3-point hitch control buttons located on the rear fenders (mud guards). When this fault is active, the external buttons will fail to operate the hitch, and the system may lock out the electronic lift controls for safety.

   Inspect the external fender switches for physical damage, cracked rubber boots, or sticking buttons (water ingress and internal corrosion are common causes).

   Trace the wiring harness from the rear mud guards to the main harness connection (often routed under the cab/seat) and look for chafing, pinched wires, or mud/debris buildup causing a short.

   Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to check the connector for a stable supply voltage.

   Check the EHR connector pins and ensure the ground is solid.

   Test the switch itself for continuity when pressed and released. If it shows an open circuit when pressed or continuity when released, the switch has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits.

   Remove the Switch

   Locate the faulty external hitch button on the rear mud guard. Depending on the model, pry the switch bezel out of the fender housing or remove the retaining screws.

   Disconnect

   Pull the switch out to expose the wiring pigtail and disconnect the electrical harness.

   Clean the Connector

   Spray the harness connector with electrical contact cleaner. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the new switch terminals to protect against future moisture ingress.

   Install the New Part

   Plug the new switch into the harness and snap/screw it back into the mud guard housing.

   Reactivate the System

   Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. Cycle the main in-cab hitch up/down switch (move it to the zero position, then up again) to clear the lockout and reactivate the system.

   Clear Codes

   If the code remains stored, clear it using a compatible diagnostic scan tool.
