Massey Ferguson 08.X.22 – HITCH: Rear Hitch Position Sensor Signal Voltage Issue
Issue description
The control unit is receiving a signal from the rear hitch position sensor that is out of the expected voltage range. This can be caused by an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or a sensor that has physically failed or moved out of alignment. As a result, the electronic draft control loses critical feedback, often causing the hitch to refuse to move or fail to maintain a set depth.

Check the cause
Cycle the hitch rocker switch off and on to wake up the system and clear temporary communication glitches
Visually inspect the potentiometer/sensor on the rear linkage to see if it has physically moved or shifted out of alignment
Inspect the sensor connector and wiring harness for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground
Check for moisture intrusion inside the sensor connections near the hydraulic lift housing
Measure the sensor's signal voltage and ground integrity to confirm whether the issue is the wiring harness or the sensor itself
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and press the master shut-off switch (often a red button located near the right-hand side of the seat or battery box) to shut down the modules completely.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the rear hitch position sensor on the lift cover/linkage assembly.
Adjust or Replace
If adjusting: Ensure the position sensor is assembled with the correct gap (e.g., approximately 20mm/0.79 in for standard GPA20 assemblies). If replacing: Remove the faulty inductive sensor and install the new sensor carefully, ensuring the new connections are completely clean and properly sealed against oil and moisture.
Calibrate the Linkage
After adjusting or replacing the sensor, you must calibrate the linkage using the tractor's diagnostic interface or onboard calibration sequence to define the high and low stops, measure the new sensor signals, and measure solenoid valve currents.
Validation
Validate the calibration by checking the linkage's full range of motion and sensor sensitivity.
