08.X.23

Massey Ferguson 08.X.23 – HITCH: Rear Hitch Depth Control Dial Signal Voltage Issue

Issue description

The electronic control system is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing voltage signal from the potentiometer (dial) used by the operator to set the working depth of the rear three-point hitch.

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness connections directly beneath the depth control dial on the armrest or side console for loose connections, corrosion, or damaged wires.

  2. Inspect the dial for physical damage, excessive play, or heavy dust/moisture intrusion.

  3. Use a multimeter to verify the reference voltage reaching the potentiometer and check for a smooth, linear voltage sweep on the signal wire as the dial is turned.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Console

Carefully remove the trim panels on the right-hand armrest or the side lift console to expose the underside of the hitch controls.

  3. Remove the Dial

Pull off the control knob/button from the top of the dial.

  4. Dismount the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical connector from the potentiometer. Remove the retaining screws (typically M3.5 x 14 screws) holding the potentiometer plate to the console.

  5. Install the New Part

Mount the new depth control potentiometer, secure it with the screws, and reattach the control knob.

  6. Reconnect and Reassemble

Plug the wiring harness back in and reassemble the console trim.

  7. Initialization/Calibration

Reconnect the battery. Most Massey Ferguson electronic linkage control (ELC) systems require a brief initialization or calibration cycle via the tractor's terminal/display after a sensor replacement so the computer can learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum voltage range.
