08.X.28

Massey Ferguson 08.X.28 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Hitch Draft Control Dial (HITCH)

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected that the signal voltage coming from the Hitch Draft Control Dial (a potentiometer/switch used by the operator to adjust the draft control sensitivity of the rear 3-point linkage) is outside of its expected operating range. This typically indicates an open circuit, a short to ground, or an internal failure of the dial's potentiometer.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the back of the Draft Control Switch (located on the right-hand console/armrest) for loose pins, corrosion, or physical damage.

  2. Use a multimeter to check for continuity, open circuits, or shorts to ground in the wiring between the Draft Control Dial and the HITCH controller.

  3. Back-probe the switch connector and measure the resistance or voltage output while turning the dial to perform a potentiometer sweep test. The signal should sweep smoothly without dropping out or spiking. If the signal is erratic or stuck, the switch is faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Remove the retaining screws or pry the trim panel on the right-hand operator console/armrest to access the underside of the hitch control panel.

  3. Remove the Faulty Dial

Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the Draft Control Switch. Unclip or unscrew the switch from the console housing.

  4. Install the New Part

Snap the new Draft Control Switch into the console and reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall the console trim panel and reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes & Calibrate

Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 08.X.28 DTC. Depending on the model, you may also need to perform a Rear Hitch Module Calibration (which can sometimes trigger a related R37 code if not calibrated).
