Massey Ferguson 08.X.50 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Right Draft Pin (HITCH)

Issue description

The voltage signal from the right draft load sensing pin is outside the normal operating range. This typically means the sensor has failed low/open or failed high/shorted, or it is sending erratic feedback to the controller.

Check the cause

  1. Check for heavy dirt and mud accumulation around the lower link draft pins that can prevent mechanical movement and cause false signals.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the right draft pin for damaged, chafed, or broken wires.

  3. Disconnect the sensor and check the connector pins for moisture intrusion. Ensure connections are clean, dry, and properly sealed.

  4. Verify that the sensor is receiving its reference voltage (typically 5V or 8V depending on generation) and that the ground circuit is intact.

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the rear hitch lower link area to remove all dirt and debris before disassembly.

  2. Disconnect the Sensor

    Unplug the electrical connector from the right draft pin sensor.

  3. Remove the Pin

    Support the lower link arm to remove tension. Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bolt or snap ring) and slide the faulty draft pin out of the housing.

  4. Install the New Sensor

    Lubricate the new draft pin as per OEM specifications and slide it into place. Secure it with the retaining hardware.

  5. Reconnect Wiring

    Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact. Use dielectric grease if recommended by the service manual to prevent future moisture intrusion.

  6. System Calibration

    After replacing a draft pin sensor, you must perform an EHR / Hitch Calibration procedure using the tractor's diagnostic interface or in-cab calibration sequence so the HITCH module can learn the new sensor's zero-load baseline.
