Massey Ferguson 08.X.51 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Left Draft Pin (HITCH)

Issue description

The fault indicates that the voltage or signal from the left lower link draft pin sensor (a load cell/dynamometer pin that measures the pulling force of the implement) is outside of its normal operating range. When this occurs, the system typically enters a degraded mode, relying solely on the right draft pin to operate the draft control.

Check the cause

  1. Visual & Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the left draft pin for chafed wires, broken lines, or corrosion inside the connector.

  2. Pinout Voltage Test: Verify the 3-wire circuit integrity at the harness side (Pin A: Ground, Pin B: Signal return to the module, Pin C: Power supply).

  3. Monitor Live Data: Navigate to the hitch diagnostic screens and look for 'L DRAFT' (software count for the left load pin) or 'POS mV' (millivolt feedback). If the value is erratic, stuck, or completely out of range compared to the right pin while static, the sensor has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Hitch

    Lower the rear linkage completely to the ground to remove all physical load and tension from the lower link arms.

  2. Disconnect the Sensor

    Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the left draft pin sensor.

  3. Remove the Pin

    Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking plate, bolt, or snap ring) securing the draft pin to the tractor chassis and lower link arm.

  4. Extract and Replace

    Slide the old draft pin out. Clean the bore of any rust or debris. Insert the new draft pin sensor, ensuring the alignment notch/flat matches the retaining plate so the sensor is oriented correctly to measure horizontal draft force.

  5. Reassemble

    Reinstall the retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.

  6. Calibration

    After replacing a draft pin sensor, the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system will likely require a hitch calibration routine via the tractor's instrument panel or diagnostic tool to learn the new sensor's zero-load baseline.
