Massey Ferguson 08.X.60 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid Open Circuit (HITCH)

The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit responsible for actuating the solenoid that lowers the rear three-point hitch. An open circuit typically means a broken wire, an unplugged or corroded connector, or a completely failed internal coil within the solenoid itself.

   Locate the rear linkage hydraulic control valve block and visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the lower solenoid for physical damage, chafing, or severed wires.

   Disconnect the plug at the lower solenoid and check for water ingress, bent pins, or heavy corrosion.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the lower solenoid. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the solenoid's internal coil has failed.

   If the solenoid tests within normal resistance specifications, test the wiring harness for continuity between the solenoid connector and the HITCH control module to isolate a broken wire.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits.

   Access the Valve Block

   Clean the area around the rear linkage hydraulic control valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Wiring Repair

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire in the harness, splice and seal the wire using marine-grade heat-shrink connectors, or replace the damaged pigtail connector.

   Solenoid Replacement

   Disconnect the electrical plug from the faulty lower solenoid. Unscrew the retaining nut/bolt holding the solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve stem. Slide the old solenoid off the valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM solenoid onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut (do not overtighten, as this can distort the valve).

   Reassembly & Testing

   Reconnect the electrical plug. Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor and use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 08.X.60 fault code. Test the rear hitch raise and lower functions to verify the repair.
