Massey Ferguson 08.X.62 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid High Amp Draw (HITCH)

The controller has detected an excessive current draw (high amperage) on the circuit responsible for the rear linkage's raise solenoid. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness, a damaged connector, or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

   Check the tractor's battery to ensure it is fully charged and system voltage is stable, as low voltage can cause erratic solenoid behavior and false codes.

   Trace the wiring harness from the HITCH module to the rear linkage raise solenoid. Look for rub points, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the raise solenoid and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, water ingress, or arcing.

   Use a digital multimeter to measure the resistance across the raise solenoid's pins. Compare this reading to the 'lower' solenoid. If the resistance is significantly lower (approaching 0 ohms), the coil is internally shorted.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the rear linkage hydraulic valve block (usually at the rear of the tractor near the lift arms) and identify the 'Raise' solenoid.

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut or fastener holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem, and slide the coil off. (If the valve cartridge itself is damaged, the hydraulic system must be depressurized before unthreading the cartridge).

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reconnect Battery

   Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Calibrate the Rear Linkage

   The rear linkage must be calibrated after changing a linkage solenoid valve to ensure precise linkage positioning.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 08.X.62 fault code and test the rear hitch raise/lower functions.
