08.X.A1

Massey Ferguson 08.X.A1 – Rear Hitch Module: Rear Hitch Module Internal Issue (HITCH)

Issue description

A controller checksum error has occurred within the module, meaning the module's internal software or hardware has detected a memory, processing, or internal circuitry failure.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the supply voltage and ground connections to the Rear Hitch Module, as low voltage or voltage spikes can cause internal processing errors

  2. Check if the linkage has lost its calibration

  3. Attempt to clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool; if the code immediately returns upon cycling the key, the module has suffered a hard internal failure

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Module

Access the Rear Hitch Module (location varies by cab configuration, often located under the right-hand console or behind the seat).

  3. Inspect Wiring

Disconnect the harness from the module and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

  4. Replace the Module

If the wiring is intact and the 08.X.A1 checksum error persists, remove the mounting hardware and replace the Rear Hitch Module with a new unit.

  5. Reprogram / Calibrate

A new Hitch Module is a 'Flash module' and must be programmed/configured to the tractor's specific CAN-bus network using the Massey Ferguson diagnostic software (e.g., Wintest/EDT).

  6. Linkage Calibration

Once installed, you must perform a full rear linkage calibration procedure so the new module learns the upper and lower limits of the hitch position sensors.

Always verify the exact part number stamped on the original module before ordering, as these controllers are highly specific to the tractor's hydraulic valve configuration.
