Massey Ferguson 0A.01.36 – Hitch Control Module / ECU: Switch On Mud Guard For Hydraulics Spool Valve Signal Voltage Issue (HITCH)

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected an incorrect, missing, or out-of-range electrical voltage signal coming from the external fender-mounted (mud guard) switch used to externally control the hydraulic spool valves, specifically for raising or lowering the rear hitch/linkage.

   Inspect the external mud guard lift switches for physical damage, cracked rubber boots, or water ingress

   Trace the wiring harness from the mud guard switch back toward the Hitch ECU to look for chafed wires, pinched lines, or cuts caused by debris or tire rub

   Disconnect the switch and inspect the electrical connector pins for green corrosion, bent pins, or trapped moisture

   Use a multimeter to verify that the switch is receiving the correct reference voltage and ground from the ECU

   Test the switch itself for continuity across its pressed and unpressed states to determine if the internal contacts have failed

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits during the repair.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty external hydraulic/hitch switch on the rear mud guard (fender).

   Remove the Switch

   Carefully pry or unscrew the switch bezel/housing from the mud guard panel.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged harness or corroded connector pigtail, splice in a new connector or repair the broken wires using weatherproof heat-shrink connectors.

   Install New Switch

   If the switch failed the multimeter test, plug the replacement switch into the wiring harness.

   Mounting

   Snap or screw the new switch assembly back into the mud guard mounting hole.

   Re-energize and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition to the ON position. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.01.36 fault code.

   Test Operation

   Test the external mud guard switch to ensure the hitch operates smoothly and verify that the fault code does not return.
