Massey Ferguson 0A.12.26 – Onboard Diagnostic System / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the first external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve) circuit. Typically caused by an electrical connection problem (such as a communication loss or spool position sensor fault) or a mechanical sticking/jamming of the valve that prevents the system from reading the correct spool position.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness, 4-pin connectors, and spool position sensor on External Hydraulic Valve 1 for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wires
Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, looking for dirty oil or metal shavings
Check if the hydraulic/transmission filter is blocked, which can cause valves to stick
Inspect the hydraulic couplers for damage or blockages
Ensure the spool valve isn't physically jammed due to internal wear or debris
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic levers/joystick to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure.
Clean and Inspect the Valve Area
Locate External Hydraulic Valve 1 at the rear remote block. Clean the area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Service the Electrical Connection
Disconnect the electrical plug to the valve's solenoid/sensor. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the wiring harness is frayed, repair the wiring.
Remove and Clean the Spool Valve
If the electricals are sound but the valve is mechanically sticking, unbolt the spool valve assembly. Inspect the internal spool for scoring or debris. Clean thoroughly and replace O-rings/seals.
Replace the Valve
If the spool position sensor has failed or the valve body is heavily worn, install a new External Hydraulic Spool Valve assembly.
Reassemble and Refill
Reinstall the valve, torque bolts to OEM spec, and top off the hydraulic system with fresh UTTO fluid. Replace the hydraulic filter if contamination was found.
Clear Codes
Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.12.26 code and test the remote for proper operation.
