Issue description

This code indicates a malfunction in the circuit, position sensor, or mechanical operation of the first external hydraulic remote (spool valve). The system has detected that the valve is either not responding to commands, has an electrical open/short in its solenoid circuit, or the spool position sensor is returning an implausible value. This often results in slow, weak, or completely dead remote hydraulics for that specific valve.

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic/transmission oil level and condition, as dirty oil or a blocked hydraulic filter can restrict flow and cause valve actuation errors.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 1 for rub points, damaged wires, or a short to ground.

  3. Unplug the solenoid and position sensor connectors at the valve block to check for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.

  4. Measure the resistance of the valve's solenoid coil to ensure it is not open or shorted, and verify that the spool position sensor is receiving reference voltage and returning a smooth signal.

  5. Ensure the hydraulic couplers are not damaged or blocked, which can cause pressure-related faults that mimic a dead valve.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

    Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/joystick to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Access the Valve Block

    Locate the external hydraulic valve block (usually at the rear of the tractor above the axle). Clean the area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Electrical Repair (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the harness or replace the faulty solenoid coil/position sensor. Clear the code and test.

  4. Valve Rebuild/Replacement

    If the electrical side is sound but the valve is sticking or leaking internally: Disconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical connectors from Valve 1. Unbolt the valve section from the main hydraulic block. Disassemble the spool valve on a clean workbench. Inspect the spool for scoring and the O-rings/seals for damage. Install an OEM spool valve repair kit (new seals, springs, and O-rings). If the spool itself is heavily scored, the entire valve section must be replaced.

  5. Reassembly & Calibration

    Reinstall the valve, torque the mounting bolts to spec, and reconnect the lines and harnesses.

  6. System Bleed & Reset

    Top off the hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor, clear the DTCs using a diagnostic tool, and run the hydraulics to bleed air from the system. You may need to run a valve calibration routine via the tractor's diagnostic display or service tool.
