Massey Ferguson 0A.13.21 – Hydraulic Control Valves Control Module or EHR / EHRC LIFT ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue
Issue description
This code indicates a connection problem or operational fault on the first external hydraulic remote valve. It is often triggered by a loss of communication between the dash and the mid-mount valve module, or an out-of-range value from the valve's spool position sensor.

Check the cause
Retrieve the code using a compatible diagnostic tool (such as TEXA IDC5 or the Massey Ferguson OEM interface) to confirm 0A.13.21 is active.
Check the wiring harness and the physical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 1. Look for corrosion, moisture ingress, or backed-out pins, as the system explicitly flags connection problems.
Use the diagnostic tool to monitor the live data for the 'Spool Position Sensor Value' on Valve 1. If the value is erratic or missing, the sensor or valve actuator is likely at fault.
Verify that the dashboard is successfully communicating with the mid-mount valve module via the CAN bus.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Access the Valve Block
Locate the rear or mid-mount external hydraulic valve block. Identify Valve 1 (usually the primary remote).
Clean and Repair Connections
Disconnect the electrical harness to Valve 1. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the wiring harness is damaged, splice in a repair pigtail or replace the affected harness section.
Replace the Valve/Sensor
If the wiring is intact but the spool position sensor failed the diagnostic check, remove the faulty External Hydraulic Valve 1 actuator/sensor assembly. Install the replacement unit and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Reconnect
Reconnect the electrical harness to the new valve, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Connect the diagnostic tool, clear the 0A.13.21 fault code, and run a hydraulic valve calibration routine if required by the specific model's service manual. Test the remote valve operation to ensure the fault does not return.
Parts you might need
(3)External Hydraulic Valve 1 Assembly / Actuator
Generic part name; often a Bosch Rexroth unit. Must be matched to the tractor's VIN/Serial in the AGCO parts catalog.
Spool Position Sensor
Generic part name; sometimes integrated directly into the valve actuator head.
