0A.20.20

Massey Ferguson 0A.20.20 – Mid Mount Valve Module or main hydraulic control module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction in the second external hydraulic spool valve circuit, typically caused by a connection problem on the hydraulic valve, an issue with the spool position sensor value, or a mechanical sticking/jamming of the valve due to internal wear or debris.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, as contaminated fluid or a clogged filter can cause the valve to stick

  2. Check for visible leaks around External Valve 2, quick couplers, hydraulic hoses, and piston seals

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 2 for microscopic cracks, corrosion, or loose pins

  4. Check the spool position sensor values using a compatible diagnostic tool to see if the sensor has failed or is reading out of range

  5. Check if the valve is physically sticking or jamming due to debris

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic system pressure before servicing the valve.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around External Hydraulic Valve 2 to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during removal.

  3. Address Electrical Faults

Disconnect the electrical harness from the valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the wiring is damaged, repair or replace the pigtail connector.

  4. Remove and Inspect the Valve

If the electrical connection is sound but the code persists, remove the spool valve. Inspect the internal spool for scoring, wear, or debris.

  5. Reseal or Replace

If the valve is leaking but mechanically sound, rebuild it using an OEM valve chamber repair kit. If the spool position sensor has failed or the valve is heavily worn/jammed, replace the entire spool valve assembly.

  6. Fluid Maintenance

If the fluid was contaminated, flush the system and replace the hydraulic filters. Top off with fresh UTTO fluid (e.g., 10W40 hydraulic tractor fluid).

  7. Test

Reinstall the valve, reconnect the harness, start the tractor, and cycle the hydraulics to bleed air from the system. Clear the DTC using a diagnostic tool and verify the code does not return.
