Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to External Hydraulic Valve 2 for pushed pins, corrosion, or frayed wires.

  2. Check the signal voltage of the spool position sensor on Valve 2 using a multimeter or diagnostic tool to ensure it is reading within the specified OEM range.

  3. Verify that there is proper CAN communication between the Dash and the Mid Mount Valve Module/Hitch controller.

  4. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic interface to clear the code and cycle the hydraulic levers to see if the code returns actively.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic remote levers to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the rear external hydraulic valve stack (usually mounted at the rear lift cover or mid-mount depending on the loader configuration).

  3. Disconnect Electrical

Carefully unplug the electrical connector to the spool position sensor/solenoid for Valve 2.

  4. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the hydraulic lines (cap them to prevent contamination) and remove the mounting bolts securing Valve 2 to the hydraulic stack.

  5. Replace or Rebuild

Install the replacement spool valve or replace the faulty spool position sensor on the existing valve.

  6. Reassemble

Bolt the valve back into the stack, reconnect the hydraulic lines, and plug in the electrical connector.

  7. Test

Top off hydraulic fluid if any was lost, start the tractor, check for leaks, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.20.22 code.
