Massey Ferguson 0A.20.23 – Mid Mount Valve Module / EHR control: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the second external hydraulic remote valve circuit, typically caused by a connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a lack of communication with the valve module, or an issue with the spool position sensor value reading out of range.

Check the cause
Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to confirm 0A.20.23 is the active code and check for any secondary codes related to the spool position sensor.
Verify communication between the dash/main ECU and the Mid Mount Valve Module, as communication drops can trigger valve errors.
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors leading to External Hydraulic Valve 2. Look for corrosion, bent pins, or damaged wires that could cause a connection problem.
Monitor the spool position sensor value via the diagnostic tool to see if it is erratic, stuck, or reading out of the expected voltage range.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical and hydraulic systems.
Locate the Valve
Locate External Hydraulic Valve 2 on the rear remote valve stack or mid-mount block.
Clean and Reconnect
Disconnect the electrical plug to the valve's actuator and spool position sensor. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect them.
Replace Faulty Components
If the wiring is sound but the spool position sensor value remains faulty, the sensor or the entire external hydraulic valve section must be replaced.
Reassembly and Bleeding
Install the new valve or sensor, ensuring all hydraulic lines are torqued to spec.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and use the diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.20.23 code. Test the operation of the #2 hydraulic remote to ensure the fault does not return.
