Massey Ferguson 0A.20.27 – Mid Mount Valve Module / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the second remote hydraulic spool valve circuit. The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem to the valve's solenoid, a faulty spool position sensor value, or a mechanical sticking/jamming of the spool valve itself preventing it from reaching the commanded position.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 2 for corroded pins, broken wires, or loose connections

  2. Check the hydraulic oil for contamination (dirt or debris) and inspect the hydraulic/transmission filters

  3. Perform a spool leakage/pressure check: Position the control handle in 'Neutral', connect a hydraulic hand pump to the control valve port, and pressurize to 2500 psi. If it cannot hold pressure, oil is leaking around the spool

  4. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to read the Spool Position Sensor value for Valve 2 to see if it is reading out of range

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Turn off the tractor, lower all implements to the ground, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure by cycling the remote levers.

  2. Disconnect Electricals

    Unplug the electrical harness connector from the External Hydraulic Valve 2 solenoid/sensor.

  3. Remove the Valve

    Unbolt the hydraulic lines and remove the Valve 2 assembly from the rear hydraulic stack.

  4. Disassemble and Clean

    Disassemble the valve to inspect for foreign matter. Clean the spool and bore thoroughly. Check the centering spring to ensure it returns the spool to neutral.

  5. Re-test or Replace

    Reassemble and repeat the 2500 psi pressure check. If it still fails to hold pressure, the spool bore is permanently scored, and the entire valve assembly must be replaced.

  6. Reinstallation

    Install the new or cleaned valve, torque bolts to OEM spec, and reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harness.

  7. Fluid Maintenance

    If debris was found inside the valve, drain the hydraulic fluid and replace the hydraulic/transmission filters to prevent a recurrence.
