Massey Ferguson 0A.22.1A – Mid Mount Valve Module or Tractor Control Unit / ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
This code indicates a malfunction in the second external remote hydraulic circuit (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically related to a connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a faulty spool position sensor providing incorrect values, or a mechanical issue such as the valve sticking or jamming due to internal wear or debris.

Check the cause
Inspect the hydraulic oil for contamination (dirt/debris) and check the hydraulic/transmission filters. Blocked filters can restrict flow and cause valve faults.
Visually inspect External Hydraulic Valve 2 for external fluid leaks, which can reduce system efficiency and trigger faults.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the spool valve solenoid and the spool position sensor. Look for corrosion, moisture ingress, or damaged wires.
Test the spool position sensor. If the implement is 'hunting' up and down or failing to maintain depth, the sensor is likely failing.
Repair steps
Clean and Reseal Connections
If the diagnostic check reveals dirty electrical connections at the valve or sensor, clean them thoroughly with contact cleaner and ensure they are properly sealed against moisture. Clear the code and retest.
Free a Stuck Valve
If the valve is mechanically sticking, you may need to remove the spool valve assembly, clean out any debris, and replace the internal seals using an OEM repair kit.
Replace the Position Sensor / Solenoid
If the spool position sensor or valve solenoid has failed electrically, unbolt the faulty component from the hydraulic lift cover/valve body and install the replacement.
Recalibration
Crucial step — After replacing electronic hydraulic components like the position sensor, the tractor's hydraulic system will likely need to be recalibrated using a dealer diagnostic tool to function properly.
