Massey Ferguson 0A.22.22 – onboard diagnostic system: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
Indicates a malfunction, connection problem, or performance restriction specifically affecting the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). Related sub-codes often point to an issue with the Spool Position Sensor Value, meaning the system cannot accurately read the physical position of the spool valve.

Check the cause
Check fluid and filters: Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Dirty oil or a blocked transmission/hydraulic filter is a primary cause of weak or dead remote hydraulics.
Inspect remote valve filters: Check specific remote valve filters for clogs caused by metal shavings or dust.
Inspect electrical connections: Check the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 2 for corrosion, damaged pins, or loose connections.
Test spool position sensor: Use a compatible diagnostic tool to monitor the spool position sensor value in real-time to see if the sensor is dead or reading erratically.
Check for mechanical binding: Inspect the quick-release couplers for damage and ensure the valve itself is not physically sticking.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure before beginning work.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the rear remote valve stack and identify Valve 2.
Disconnect Electricals
Carefully unplug the wiring harness from the electric spool slice/position sensor.
Remove the Valve/Filter
If replacing the remote valve filter, extract it from the housing. If the valve slice itself has failed, unbolt the specific electric spool slice from the hydraulic block.
Install New Components
Install the replacement electric spool slice or pilot pressure control valve. Ensure all O-rings and seals are properly seated to prevent leaks.
Programming
If replacing the entire Electric Spool Slice, the new unit must be programmed to the tractor's onboard computer to function correctly.
Fluid Top-Off
Replace the hydraulic filter if the oil was contaminated, and top off the system with clean UTTO fluid (e.g., 10W40).
Clear Codes
Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.22.22 DTC and test the remote valve for proper operation.
