0A.23.22

Massey Ferguson 0A.23.22 – Transmission/Hydraulic Control Unit or Mid Mount Valve Module / EHR module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the second electronic hydraulic remote (EHR) valve circuit. The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a faulty spool position sensor value, or a mechanical sticking of the spool valve that prevents it from responding correctly to the control module's commands.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the hydraulic oil for contamination (dirt or metal shavings) and check for a blocked hydraulic or transmission filter

  2. Check the hydraulic couplers and hoses on Valve 2 for physical damage, blockages, or restrictions

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 2 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires

  4. Test the spool position sensor and the solenoid coil on Valve 2 for proper resistance and voltage to determine if the issue is electrical (failed solenoid/sensor) or mechanical (stuck spool)

Repair steps

  1. Safety & Prep

Lower all implements to the ground. Turn off the engine and cycle the remote levers/buttons to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Locate the Valve

Access the external hydraulic valve block (usually located at the rear of the tractor above the rear axle). Identify the section corresponding to Valve 2.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical connectors from the solenoid coil and the spool position sensor on Valve 2.

  4. Remove the Valve/Solenoid

If replacing the solenoid/sensor: Unbolt the faulty solenoid coil or sensor from the valve body. If replacing the entire valve section: Disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to Valve 2. Unbolt the tie-rods holding the valve stack together and carefully remove the Valve 2 section.

  5. Installation

Install the new valve section, solenoid, or sensor. Ensure all O-rings are seated correctly. Torque all bolts to OEM specifications.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug in the electrical connectors.

  7. Testing & Clearing

Top up the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Start the tractor and operate the remote to bleed air from the system. Check for leaks. Finally, use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.23.22 DTC from the system.
