Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading directly to External Hydraulic Valve 2 for corrosion, moisture ingress, or backed-out pins.

  2. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to read live data from the spool position sensor to check for erratic or out-of-range values.

  3. Ensure there are no accompanying CAN-bus codes (such as M16) indicating a loss of communication between the dash and the valve module.

  4. Verify the tractor's hydraulic oil level and filter condition, as contaminated oil or suction restrictions can cause the spool valve to stick mechanically.

Repair steps

  1. Retrieve and Document Codes

    Connect a diagnostic interface to confirm 0A.23.25 is the only active code. Clear the code to see if it immediately returns (hard fault) or only occurs during operation (intermittent/mechanical fault).

  2. Clean and Reseat Connectors

    Disconnect the electrical plug at Valve 2. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect it.

  3. Test the Solenoids/Sensors

    Test the resistance of the valve's solenoids and the voltage supply to the spool position sensor. Replace the sensor if it fails electrical testing.

  4. Valve Removal

    If the wiring and sensors are intact but the valve fails to actuate, the internal spool is likely damaged or seized. Depressurize the hydraulic system and remove the External Hydraulic Valve 2 assembly.

  5. Rebuild or Replace

    Install a replacement spool valve assembly. (Note: Many independent specialists recommend rebuilding these specific valves due to the high cost of brand-new OEM replacements).

  6. Reassembly and Calibration

    Reinstall the valve, top up the hydraulic fluid, and bleed the system. Use the diagnostic tool to calibrate the new valve/sensor to the tractor's ECU.

  7. Final Test

    Clear the DTCs and operate the auxiliary remote under load to ensure the code does not return.
