Check the cause
Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Look for aeration, metal shavings, or debris that could cause the valve spool to stick. Ensure the hydraulic filter is not restricted.
Check for visible hydraulic fluid leaks around the external valve block, quick couplers, and hoses. A loss of system pressure can trigger valve performance codes.
Inspect the wiring harness connecting the dash/ECU to the Mid Mount Valve Module and the specific solenoid for Valve 2. Look for microscopic cracks, corrosion, or loose pins.
Use a compatible diagnostic tool to monitor the spool position sensor value for Valve 2. If the value is erratic or out of range, the sensor or the valve slice itself may be faulty.
If the valve is physically stuck due to debris, try manually moving the pump control valve lever back and forth to see if it releases before tearing down the assembly.

Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all hydraulic implements to the ground to relieve system pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.
Access the Valve Block
Locate the external hydraulic valve block (typically at the rear remotes or mid-mount section, depending on the tractor's configuration).
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around Valve 2 to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect Wiring
Carefully unplug the electrical connectors from the Valve 2 solenoid (electrovalve) and the spool position sensor.
Remove the Valve/Solenoid
Unbolt the faulty electrovalve or the entire electric spool slice from the hydraulic manifold. Be prepared to catch residual hydraulic fluid with a drain pan.
Install the New Part
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid or spool slice with clean hydraulic fluid. Bolt the new component into place, ensuring proper torque specifications as per the service manual.
Reassemble and Reconnect
Reconnect the electrical harnesses to the new valve and sensor.
Fluid Bleed and Test
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and top off the hydraulic fluid if necessary. Cycle the hydraulic remote several times to bleed air from the system.
Clear Codes
Use a Massey Ferguson-compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.23.28 code and verify that the spool position sensor requires no further calibration. (Note: Some electric spool slices require dealer programming to sync with the tractor's ECU).
