0A.23.2A

Massey Ferguson 0A.23.2A – Autotronic Module / Valve Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the second auxiliary remote spool valve (often an electrohydraulic valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical communication failure (such as a disconnected harness or faulty spool position sensor) or a mechanical issue where the spool valve is stuck, jammed by debris, or failing to actuate properly.

Check the cause

  1. Check Valve LEDs: Inspect the LED indicators on the electronic spool valves. They should be solid red when receiving power and turn green when receiving input to move. If the LED on Valve 2 is flashing, it confirms a localized fault in that specific valve.

  2. Check Dash Error Codes: Access the Autotronic diagnostic screen. Turn the key on, push the clutch in and release it to clear the right screen, then hold down the up arrow key. Check the DC and TC error codes to see if a specific 'Spool Position Sensor Value' or 'No Communication' sub-code is present.

  3. Inspect Electrical Connections: Check the wiring harness connecting to External Valve 2. Look for corroded pins, broken wires, or loose connectors, which are common causes for this code.

  4. Check Fluid and Filters: Ensure the hydraulic oil is at the correct level and not contaminated. A blocked hydraulic/transmission filter can cause pressure drops that mimic valve failures.

  5. Mechanical Linkage Check: Verify that the external linkage is in the center position and that the valve is not physically jammed by debris.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic remote levers/buttons to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure before servicing.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the rear remote valves to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Address Electrical Faults

If the diagnostic checks pointed to a wiring issue, clean the connector pins with contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect. If the spool position sensor is faulty, unbolt the sensor housing from the valve body and install a replacement sensor.

  4. Remove the Spool Valve

If the valve is mechanically stuck or the internal solenoids have failed, disconnect the hydraulic hoses and the electrical harness from Valve 2. Unbolt the valve slice from the hydraulic stack.

  5. Inspect and Rebuild/Replace

Inspect the spool for scoring or wear. If the valve body is scored or the internal electronics have failed, the entire valve slice must be replaced.

  6. Reinstallation

Bolt the new or rebuilt valve back into the stack. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harness.

  7. Fluid and Testing

Top up the hydraulic fluid (using MF CMS M1145 specification oil). Start the tractor, clear the DTCs using a compatible diagnostic tool or the dash interface, and test the remote valve for proper operation and leaks.
