Check the cause
Check the UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) level and inspect the fluid for a dark color, burnt smell, or a milky appearance indicating water contamination
Inspect the hydraulic filter for blockages, as a heavily contaminated filter severely restricts oil flow
Test system pressure using a hydraulic gauge at the rear quick couplers for Valve 2 (pressure below 2200 psi or above 3600 psi points to a failing relief valve or pump rather than the external valve)
Inspect the external control valve block, quick couplers, and hoses for external leaks or seeping
Check for system aeration, which causes vibrations and spontaneous cylinder action, often due to air entering during previous repairs
Repair steps
Fluid and Filter Service
If the hydraulic fluid is degraded or contaminated, drain the system, flush it, and replace the fluid with fresh UTTO. Replace the hydraulic filter (this is a mandatory maintenance step every 300–500 hours).
Unstick the Valve
If the valve spool is physically stuck, attempt to manually move the pump control valve lever back and forth to free it.
Valve Removal
If the valve remains unresponsive or the electrical connection/solenoid has failed, depressurize the hydraulic system and remove the External Hydraulic Valve 2 assembly from the rear remote stack.
Clean and Inspect
Clean the valve chamber. Inspect the internal seals, spools, and the solenoid connection for wear, scoring, or electrical faults.
Rebuild or Replace
Depending on the severity of the internal wear, either install a seal/rebuild kit or replace the entire auxiliary valve unit.
Reinstallation and Bleeding
Reinstall the valve, top off the hydraulic fluid, and cycle the hydraulics to bleed any air from the system to prevent aeration and vibrations.
Parts you might need
(3)External Auxiliary Hydraulic Valve (Valve 2)
Many modern Massey Ferguson tractors utilize the Bosch Rexroth SB23 auxiliary remote spool valve for their external hydraulics.
Hydraulic Filter
Generic OEM replacement (Always use genuine OEM filters, as low-quality substitutes increase the risk of contamination entry by 35%).
Hydraulic Fluid
UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil), such as 10W40 tractor fluid.
