Check the cause

  1. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all moving parts to stop before inspecting the hydraulic system

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at External Hydraulic Valve 3 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires

  3. Check the hydraulic oil for contamination (dirt or debris) and inspect the hydraulic/transmission oil filter for blockages

  4. Inspect the hydraulic couplers for damage or blockages, and check the hoses for wear or leaks

  5. Determine if the valve is slow (restricted flow), weak (pressure problem/relief valve fault), or dead (stuck valve or electrical failure)

Repair steps

  1. Verify fault code

Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to the tractor to verify the 0A.31.19 code is active.

  2. Locate valve

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 3 on the rear hydraulic block.

  3. Clean electrical contacts

Disconnect the electrical harness to the valve and clean the contacts. Reconnect and test to see if the code clears.

  4. Replace filter and check fluid

If the electrical connection is sound but the valve remains unresponsive, replace the hydraulic/transmission filter and check the fluid levels.

  5. Replace valve or switch

If the issue persists, the electric spool valve control switch or the hydraulic valve itself has likely failed internally and must be replaced.

  6. Test and clear codes

Install the replacement valve or switch, clear the DTCs using the diagnostic tool, and test the implement to ensure proper hydraulic flow and pressure.
