0A.31.1F

Massey Ferguson 0A.31.1F – Control Unit Dashboard or Armrest Control Unit (e.g., Autotronic 5): External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction with the third rear hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). This is typically caused by an electrical connection problem, a short circuit/open load in the valve's power stage, a valve position sensor error, or a mechanical blockage preventing the valve from returning to the neutral position. When this code is active, the system will usually block the affected valve for safety.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a system reset by stopping and re-running the engine to see if the error was a temporary glitch

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 3 for corrosion, moisture, or physical damage

  3. Test the valve position sensor line and solenoid power stage for an open load, short circuit to battery (+), or short circuit to ground

  4. Ensure the main hydraulic distributor is returning to the neutral position and check for physical blockages in the pressure line

Repair steps

  1. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the hydraulic levers/buttons.

  2. Locate valve

Locate the rear remote valve block and identify External Hydraulic Valve 3.

  3. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the electrical harness from the valve's solenoid and position sensor.

  4. Clean and inspect connectors

Clean the connectors with electrical contact cleaner. If the wiring harness is damaged, repair or replace the affected pigtail.

  5. Diagnose valve failure

If the electrical feed is correct but the valve is unresponsive or throwing the code, the spool valve solenoid or the valve assembly itself has failed.

  6. Remove faulty valve

Unbolt the faulty spool valve from the hydraulic manifold block (be prepared to catch residual hydraulic fluid).

  7. Install or rebuild valve

Install the replacement spool valve or rebuild the existing valve using an OEM repair kit. Torque the hydraulic unions and mounting bolts to the specifications outlined in the service manual.

  8. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Top off fluid

Top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the swap.

  10. Test system

Restart the tractor, use the dashboard controls or a diagnostic tool to clear the DTC, and test the 3rd remote for proper function.
