   Retrieve Codes: Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or interface device to confirm 0A.31.22 is active.

   Inspect Connections: Locate External Valve 3 in the rear remote stack and inspect the electrical connector (many of these use a 4-pin connector) for dirt, moisture, or bent pins.

   Wiring Harness Check: Test the wiring harness for continuity and shorts between the valve's connector and the control module.

   Component Testing: Check the pilot pressure control for the electric spool valve to ensure the mechanical/hydraulic side is receiving the electrical command.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Valve Stack

   Locate the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify Valve 3.

   Clean and Reconnect

   If the diagnostic check revealed a loose or dirty 4-pin connector, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect it. Clear the DTCs and test operation.

   Replace the Spool Slice

   If the wiring is intact but the valve fails to respond, the electric spool slice (head unit) has likely failed internally. Unbolt the faulty slice from the hydraulic distributor stack.

   Install New Valve

   Mount the replacement electric spool slice and torque the stack bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the 4-pin electrical harness.

   Programming

   Connect the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool. A new electric spool slice needs to be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's system before it will function correctly.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 0A.31.22 code and test the hydraulic remote for proper operation.
