Massey Ferguson 0A.32.18 – Onboard diagnostic system (Vehicle Control Unit or Hydraulic/Linkage ECU): External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Indicates a fault within the third external hydraulic remote (spool valve). Often points to a connection problem on a hydraulic valve or a failure of the valve's electronic solenoid to respond to command signals.

   Visual Inspection: Locate External Hydraulic Valve 3 at the rear remote stack. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve's electronic solenoid for chafing, cuts, or heat damage.

   Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical plug at the valve. Check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Electrical Testing: Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the valve's solenoid coil to ensure it is not open or shorted. Verify that the harness is delivering the correct reference voltage when the valve is commanded from the cab.

   Mechanical Check: Ensure the manual override (if equipped) moves freely and that the spool is not mechanically seized due to contamination in the hydraulic fluid.

   Relieve pressure

   Turn off the tractor, lower all implements, and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve residual pressure.

   Clean area

   Clean the area around the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Inspect and repair connector

   Disconnect the electrical harness from External Hydraulic Valve 3. If the connector is heavily corroded, splice in a new pigtail connector.

   Replace solenoid

   If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut/screws holding the solenoid to the valve slice and replace the solenoid.

   Disassemble valve stack

   If the entire valve slice is internally faulty or seized, unbolt the tie-rods holding the remote valve stack together.

   Remove valve slice

   Carefully remove slice #3, replacing the O-rings between the valve slices.

   Install new valve slice

   Install the new valve slice, torque the stack tie-rods to OEM specifications, and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Check for leaks

   Top off the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, and check for leaks.

   Clear DTC

   Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.32.18 DTC from the system.
