Issue description

Indicates a malfunction associated with the third external hydraulic spool valve. Check the cause

  1. Visual LED Check: Inspect the LED indicators on the electronic valves. They should be lit solid red when receiving power and turn green when receiving input to move. If the LED on Valve 3 is flashing, it confirms a fault is actively detected at that specific valve.

  2. Linkage Position Check: Look at the position of the external linkage and verify if the valves are physically stuck or if they are returning to the center (neutral) position.

  3. Electrical Circuit Testing: Check the solenoid connector for Valve 3. Inspect the wiring harness for rub points, test the coil resistance, and verify ground integrity to rule out a simple short or open circuit.

  4. Autotronic Diagnostics: Access the Autotronic system (often done by turning the key on, pushing the clutch in and releasing to clear the right screen, then holding down the up arrow key) to check for secondary DC or TC error codes that might provide more context.

Repair steps

  1. Clear the Code & Retest

    Clear the DTCs using a compatible diagnostic tool to see if the code is a hard fault or an intermittent voltage drop issue.

  2. Harness & Connector Repair

    If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or corroded connector at Valve 3, repair the wiring harness or replace the solenoid connector.

  3. Unsticking the Valve

    If the valve is mechanically stuck, you can sometimes release it by manually moving the pump control valve lever back and forth, or by repeatedly picking up and dropping the lift arms when the lift control levers are in the down position.

  4. Spool Valve Detent Modification

    If the detents are failing on a 7600 series tractor, you can modify and replace just the detents rather than the whole valve, which is a significant cost saving.

  5. Valve Replacement

    If the electrohydraulic spool valve has failed internally (common with age) and cannot be unstuck or electrically repaired, the complete valve slice must be removed and replaced.

  6. Programming

    If replacing an electric spool slice, the new unit must be programmed to the tractor's ECU to function correctly.
