Issue description

Malfunction in the electrohydraulic spool valve (SCV) number 4, typically stemming from an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, high/low amp draw on the solenoid, or CAN bus communication failure) or a mechanical issue where the spool position sensor detects that the valve is not returning to its neutral set point.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the LED indicator on the #4 electronic valve block (solid red indicates power, green indicates input command, flashing indicates a blink code)

  2. Check the wiring harness at the valve connector, verifying ground (Black wire), +12V Permanent power (Brown wire), and +12V Ignition power (Red wire)

  3. Inspect the CAN network wires (Yellow for CAN High, Green for CAN Low) for continuity or shorts

  4. Verify if the external linkage or valve is physically stuck, preventing the spool from returning to neutral

  5. Use the Massey Ferguson Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) or Datatronic screen to read specific sub-parameters and error messages

Repair steps

  1. Clear Debris & Inspect

    Clean the area around the #4 hydraulic valve block to prevent system contamination. Check for physical damage to the pilot valve housing.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a voltage drop or CAN bus interruption, repair the affected harness or connector pins.

  3. Address Worn Detents

    If the valve is mechanically failing to center (common on the 7600 series), modify and install replacement detents rather than replacing the entire valve.

  4. Replace the Valve Assembly

    If the internal displacement sensor, solenoid, or digital communication device has failed, the complete electrohydraulic spool valve must be replaced. Disconnect the hydraulic lines, unbolt the valve slice from the priority block, and install the new OEM valve.

  5. Calibration

    After installing a new valve, it must be calibrated using the Datatronic screen or the Massey Ferguson EDT software so the EHR module can learn the new valve's neutral set point and travel limits.
