Massey Ferguson 0A.41.1A – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Record) or Autotronic: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the fourth auxiliary remote hydraulic spool valve at the rear of the tractor, indicating an electrical communication failure (wiring/solenoid issue) or a mechanical sticking/jamming of the spool valve that prevents it from responding to electronic commands.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Valve 4 for frayed wires, corroded pins, or a loose connector at the valve's solenoid (electrical communication failure cause)
Test if the valve is mechanically jammed or unresponsive to manual override (if equipped) due to debris or internal wear (mechanical sticking cause)
Inspect the valve block for visible hydraulic fluid leaks, which can cause pressure drops and erratic behavior
Ensure the tractor has the correct level of UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) and check that hydraulic filters are not clogged with metal shavings or debris
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all pressure from the system before wrenching.
Access the Valve Block
Locate the auxiliary remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify Valve #4 (usually the fourth slice in the stack).
Disconnect Electronics
Carefully unplug the electrical harness from the Valve 4 solenoid.
Remove the Valve Slice
Unbolt the tie-rods holding the hydraulic valve stack together and carefully extract the Valve 4 distributor section.
Reseal or Replace
If leaking/sticking: Use a specialized spool valve reseal kit to replace the internal O-rings and seals, and clean out any debris. If the solenoid/electronics have failed: Replace the entire distributor section with a new OEM unit.
Reassembly
Reinstall the valve slice, torque the stack tie-rods to OEM spec, and reconnect the electrical harness.
System Bleed and Test
Top up the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, and operate the #4 remote to bleed air from the system. Clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool and verify the code does not return.
