0A.41.21

Massey Ferguson 0A.41.21 – Onboard Diagnostic System / Main Tractor ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction or communication failure with the 4th external hydraulic remote/spool valve at the rear of the tractor. Indicates the system is likely detecting an open circuit, short circuit, or abnormal voltage/update rate from the electronic spool valve slice.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the #4 external hydraulic spool valve block at the rear of the tractor. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose connector pins.

  2. Clear and Verify: Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool (such as Diagmaster) to clear the code. Operate the #4 hydraulic remote to see if the code returns immediately (hard fault) or intermittently.

  3. Component Swapping (If applicable): If the electrical connections are sound, swap the electrical actuator/pilot control from valve #4 with valve #3 to see if the fault code changes to the #3 valve (e.g., 0A.41.11 or similar). If the code follows the component, the electric spool slice is faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Ensure the tractor is turned off, the implement is lowered to the ground, and hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system before servicing the valve block.

  2. Disconnect Electrical Harness

Unplug the electrical connector from the #4 electric spool slice. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and test. If the fault persists, proceed to replacement.

  3. Remove the Faulty Spool Slice

Unbolt the #4 electric spool slice from the hydraulic valve stack. Be prepared to catch residual hydraulic fluid.

  4. Install the New Spool Slice

Mount the replacement electric spool slice (OEM part) to the valve block, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  5. Software Programming

A new electric spool slice will likely need to be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU using the Massey Ferguson diagnostic software so the tractor recognizes the new valve.

  6. Test Operation

Clear any remaining DTCs and test the hydraulic remote under load to ensure proper operation and no leaks.
