Massey Ferguson 0A.41.27 – Hydraulic Control Module / Electronic Hitch & Remote (EHR) controller: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction associated with the 4th rear remote hydraulic spool valve. Typically caused by an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power in the solenoid circuit) or a mechanical issue (such as a sticking spool valve or failed detent) that the controller detects as an out-of-range or missing signal.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the #4 external hydraulic valve for rub points, damaged pins, or corrosion that could cause an open circuit or short to ground.

  2. Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the #4 valve solenoid coil and verify ground integrity.

  3. Swap the electrical connection from Valve 4 to an adjacent, known-good valve (like Valve 3). If the fault code changes to the new valve, the issue is in the tractor's wiring. If the fault remains with Valve 4, the solenoid or valve body is the culprit.

  4. Check the hydraulic/transmission oil level and the condition of the hydraulic filter. Dirty oil or blocked filters can cause spool valves to stick or become unresponsive.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Disconnect Harness

    Unplug the electrical connector from the #4 hydraulic spool valve.

  3. Solenoid Replacement (If electrical)

    If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve cartridge, slide off the old coil, and install the replacement.

  4. Valve Rebuild/Replacement (If mechanical)

    If the valve is sticking, leaking, or the detent has failed, unbolt the #4 spool valve assembly from the hydraulic valve stack.

  5. Disassembly

    Take the valve to a clean workbench. Disassemble the valve to inspect the spool for scoring.

  6. Install Repair Kit

    Replace the internal seals, O-rings, and the detent mechanism using an OEM spool valve repair kit.

  7. Reassembly

    Reinstall the valve into the stack, torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications, and reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. Testing

    Top off the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, and test the #4 remote for proper operation. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.41.27 code.
