0A.42.1E

Massey Ferguson 0A.42.1E – EHR - Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic control unit or main vehicle ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction in the circuit, solenoid, or mechanical operation of the 4th external hydraulic remote/spool valve. The system has detected a signal out of range, an open circuit, a short, or a condition it cannot correct regarding this specific valve.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Check the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 4 for any visible rub points, fraying, or damage.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the solenoid connector at the valve. Check for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture. Clean and reseat the connection.

  3. Electrical Testing: Test the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to ensure it is not open or shorted. Check for proper ground integrity at the valve harness. Verify that the valve is receiving the correct voltage signal from the controller when the remote is activated in the cab.

  4. Mechanical Check: Ensure the valve spool is not physically stuck due to debris or internal failure.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, relieve all hydraulic system pressure, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the external hydraulic valve stack (usually at the rear of the tractor above the rear axle). Identify Valve 4.

  3. Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or bad connector, splice in a new connector pigtail or repair the harness.

  4. Solenoid/Valve Replacement

If the solenoid coil is dead or the valve is internally stuck: Disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to Valve 4 (cap them to prevent fluid loss and contamination). Remove the mounting bolts securing Valve 4 to the hydraulic block. Remove the faulty valve/solenoid assembly. Install the new valve assembly with new O-rings/seals. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.

  5. Test

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool and test the operation of the 4th remote to ensure the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • External Hydraulic Spool Valve Assembly (Remote Valve 4) / Valve Solenoid Coil

When ordering, you must specify whether your tractor has mechanical or electronic remotes (EHR), and provide the exact chassis serial number to your Massey Ferguson / AGCO dealer to ensure the correct valve slice or replacement solenoid is supplied.
