0A.42.1F

Massey Ferguson 0A.42.1F: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's diagnostic system has detected an electrical or operational malfunction with the 4th rear remote/spool valve, which is typically caused by a faulty solenoid, a wiring/connection issue, or an internal mechanical failure of the valve itself.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the Code: Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool/scanner to confirm the 0A.42.1F code is active.

  2. Inspect Electrical Connections: Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector going to the 4th external hydraulic valve solenoid. Look for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires.

  3. Test the Solenoid: Check the solenoid coil on the 4th spool valve for proper resistance using a multimeter. A dead or shorted solenoid is a common culprit for electronic spool valve failures.

  4. Check Hydraulic Fluid & Filters: Ensure the hydraulic oil is clean and at the proper level. Dirty oil or blocked hydraulic filters can cause valves to stick or operate poorly.

  5. Clear and Monitor: Clear the DTC using the diagnostic tool and operate the tractor to see if the code returns, which verifies if the fault is a hard failure or a transient glitch.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.

  2. Locate Valve 4

Identify the 4th external hydraulic spool valve at the rear remote stack of the tractor.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged connector or wiring, repair or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

If the solenoid failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut/bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge. Slide the old solenoid off and install the new OEM replacement solenoid.

  5. Replace the Valve

If the electrical circuit and solenoid are functioning correctly but the valve is internally seized or faulty, the spool valve assembly must be replaced. Disconnect the hydraulic lines, unbolt the valve from the remote stack, and install the new valve.

  6. Reassemble and Bleed

Reconnect all hydraulic lines and electrical connectors. Top up the hydraulic fluid to replace any lost during the repair. Bleed the hydraulic system if air was introduced.

  7. Final Testing

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and use the diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.42.1F code. Actuate the 4th remote valve to ensure proper operation and check for leaks.
