0A.42.25

Massey Ferguson 0A.42.25: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a problem with the 4th auxiliary/external hydraulic remote valve. In off-road machinery, this typically points to an electrical circuit issue (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power at the solenoid) or a mechanical/hydraulic condition where the valve's position or pressure is out of range.

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness leading to External Valve 4 for rub points, frayed wires, or shorts to the chassis.

  2. Inspect the solenoid connector on Valve 4 for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.

  3. Measure the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to ensure it is within specification and verify ground integrity.

  4. Check the hydraulic fluid levels and ensure the fluid is not dirty or contaminated, as debris can cause the valve to stick mechanically and throw erratic pressure codes.

Repair steps

  1. Retrieve and Verify

Use a compatible diagnostic tool to confirm 0A.42.25 is the only active code.

  2. Locate Valve 4

Identify the 4th external hydraulic remote valve block at the rear of the tractor.

  3. Inspect and Clean

Disconnect the electrical harness from the valve's solenoid. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner.

  4. Test the Solenoid

If the wiring harness provides the correct voltage but the valve does not actuate (or fails the resistance test), the solenoid coil or the valve cartridge itself has failed.

  5. Replace the Component

Depressurize the hydraulic system. Unbolt the faulty solenoid/valve assembly and install the replacement part.

  6. Reassemble and Top Off

Reconnect the wiring harness. Top up the hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the swap.

  7. Clear Codes

Clear the DTCs using the diagnostic tool and cycle the hydraulic remote to ensure the code does not return.
