Check the cause
Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or interface device to confirm the code and check for related electrical connection codes (e.g., 0A.41.FF, which indicates a connection problem on a hydraulic valve).
Check the external hydraulic valve 4 for visible fluid leaks around the valve body, worn seals, or loose connections.
Test for slow, erratic operation, or unusual noises (whining/banging) which can indicate contaminated hydraulic fluid, trapped air, or worn internal components.
Pressurize the port (e.g., to 2500 psi). If it is not possible to pressurize the port, oil is leaking around the spool. This indicates a damaged spool/spool bore, a failed centering spring, or foreign matter inside the valve.
Repair steps
Position handles
Position the hydraulic control handles in the "Neutral" position.
Clean valve
Clean the front of the valve and spool thoroughly to prevent contamination.
Remove linkage
Remove the linkage or lever from the spool.
Disconnect lines
Unscrew the large pipe/hydraulic lines from the rear of the valve.
Remove end cap
Remove the snap ring and the valve spool end cap.
Remove spool
Carefully remove the valve spool from the valve body (this can often be done while the valve body is still mounted on the tractor if you are only fixing a leak).
Rebuild valve
Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble the valve to ensure no contamination is inside. Replace worn seals using an OEM repair kit.
Replace valve assembly
If the spool or bore is physically damaged and cannot hold pressure, the entire valve assembly must be replaced.
Program ECU
If the tractor uses an electric spool slice, the replacement unit must be programmed to the tractor's ECU after physical installation.
