0A.42.2A

Massey Ferguson 0A.42.2A – Tractor Control Unit (TCU / DCC3) or Implement/Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Connection problem or malfunction on the 4th external hydraulic valve (spool valve or remote valve) due to an electrical fault, communication error, or physical sticking issue preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid level and inspect the hydraulic filter for clogs, as low fluid or a clogged filter can cause pressure drops that trigger valve faults

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Valve 4 for loose connectors, broken wires, or corrosion

  3. Test if the valve is physically stuck by manually actuating the valve lever to see if it is binding

  4. Use a multimeter to ensure the valve solenoid is receiving the correct voltage when commanded by the cab controls

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and actuate the hydraulic levers to relieve any residual pressure in the hydraulic system before servicing.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Address Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic check revealed corroded contacts, clean them with electrical contact cleaner. If the harness is damaged, splice or replace the wiring.

  4. Remove the Faulty Valve

If the valve itself has failed, disconnect the electrical harness from Valve 4. Unbolt the hydraulic lines/hoses connected to the spool valve, being prepared to catch leaking fluid.

  5. Unbolt the Spool Slice

Remove the mounting bolts holding the specific spool slice (Valve 4) to the valve stack.

  6. Install Replacement/Rebuild

Either rebuild the valve using an OEM repair kit (replacing internal O-rings and seals) or install a completely new electric spool slice.

  7. Reassembly

Bolt the valve back into the stack, reconnect the hydraulic lines, and plug in the electrical harness.

  8. Refill and Test

Top off the system with Massey Ferguson Hydraulic Fluid. Start the tractor, test the valve operation, check for leaks, and use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.42.2A code. Note: Some electric spool slices may require programming/calibration to the tractor upon installation.
