Massey Ferguson 0A.43.27 – Hydraulic Control Module or Main Vehicle ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue
Issue description
This code indicates a malfunction associated with the 4th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem, a failed solenoid coil, or a mechanical issue (such as a stuck spool) preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause
Locate the rear remote valve stack and identify Valve 4. Inspect the electrical connector for dirt, corrosion, or loose pins.
Trace the wiring from Valve 4 back to the control module to ensure there are no chafed wires or breaks causing an open or short circuit.
Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the Valve 4 solenoid coil. Verify that the ECU is sending the correct voltage to the solenoid when the valve is commanded from the cab.
Ensure the spool valve is not mechanically binding due to hydraulic fluid contamination or internal wear.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure.
Access the Valve
Navigate to the rear external hydraulic valve block. Clean the area around Valve 4 thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Electrical Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a faulty connector, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner or replace the pigtail connector.
Solenoid Replacement
If the solenoid coil has failed, disconnect the wiring harness, remove the retaining nut/bolt, and slide the old solenoid off the spool valve stem. Install the new solenoid and torque to OEM specifications.
Spool Valve Replacement
If the valve slice itself is internally damaged or stuck, unbolt the tie-rods holding the remote valve stack together. Carefully remove the Valve 4 slice (electric spool slice), replace the O-rings/seals, and install the new valve slice. Re-torque the stack tie-rods.
Reassembly and Testing
Reconnect the electrical harness. Start the tractor, check for hydraulic leaks, and test the operation of Remote 4.
Clear Codes
Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool (such as the EST tool) to clear the 0A.43.27 code from the system memory. Note: Some electric spool slices may require programming/calibration to the tractor via the diagnostic tool after installation.
