0A.4X.1B

Massey Ferguson 0A.4X.1B: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a malfunction or fault within the circuit or mechanical operation of the 4th external hydraulic remote valve. Often caused by an electrical connection failure, a sticking/jamming valve spool due to debris, or internal wear causing pressure loss.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 4 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires (electrical connection problems are a primary trigger).

  2. Check for visible hydraulic fluid leaks around the valve body, quick couplers, and hoses that could cause pressure drops.

  3. Verify the hydraulic fluid level and condition, looking for contaminated fluid or a clogged hydraulic filter.

  4. Test if the hydraulic controls are unresponsive or sticking, indicating internal debris or spool wear, and check connection tightness at the pump and control valve.

Repair steps

  1. Clear Codes & Retest

Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the DTC and operate the hydraulic remote to see if the code returns immediately (indicating a hard electrical fault) or under load (indicating a mechanical/pressure issue).

  2. Repair Wiring

If a connection problem is found at the valve solenoid, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail.

  3. Flush and Filter

If the valve is sticking due to debris, flush the contaminated hydraulic fluid and replace the hydraulic filters (recommended every 300-500 hours). Refill with OEM-spec UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil).

  4. Valve Replacement/Rebuild

If the electrical circuit is intact and the fluid is clean but the valve remains unresponsive or leaks internally, remove External Hydraulic Valve 4. Depending on the severity of the wear, either install a valve seal repair kit or replace the entire directional control valve assembly.
