0A.4X.22

Massey Ferguson 0A.4X.22 – Hydraulic ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

This fault code indicates a malfunction, electrical short, or communication failure with the fourth electrohydraulic remote spool valve (SCV) at the rear of the tractor. It typically points to a connection problem on the hydraulic valve, which disrupts the electronic control of the rear implements and prevents proper operation of the affected remote.

Check the cause

  1. Check the LED on the electronic valve block at the rear of the tractor (solid red indicates power, green indicates input to move, flashing indicates an internal fault).

  2. Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to Spool Valve 4 for chafed wires, moisture ingress, or loose pins.

  3. Test cab controls by verifying if the issue occurs when using the armrest fingertip controls versus the SMS joystick to isolate electrical circuit or cab input issues.

  4. Access the tractor diagnostic screen to check for secondary DC or TC error codes that might provide more granular electrical data.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Turn off the tractor, lower all implements, and relieve hydraulic pressure from the system.

  2. Clean and reseat connectors

Disconnect the electrical plug at External Hydraulic Valve 4. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reseat the connector firmly.

  3. Clear codes and retest

Clear the DTCs using a compatible diagnostic tool or the tractor onboard interface. Cycle the key and test the valve.

  4. Replace valve or detent

If the code returns and the wiring tests good, the electrohydraulic valve assembly is likely internally faulty. On some models, you can modify and replace just the detent mechanism instead of the entire valve.

  5. Install new valve

Unbolt the faulty number 4 SCV slice from the hydraulic stack, ensuring O-rings are replaced between the valve slices. Bolt the new valve into place, torque to OEM spec, and reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Calibrate valve

Calibrate the newly installed electrohydraulic valve via the tractor terminal or a dealer diagnostic tool to ensure proper flow rates and centering.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Electrohydraulic Spool Valve (SCV) Assembly

Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily by exact model and hydraulic pump configuration (Load Sensing vs. Open Center).

  • Spool Valve Detent Kit

Aftermarket or modified OEM detent kits are available as a cost-effective repair if only the detent has failed.
