Check the cause

  1. Inspect the electrical connection at the wiring harness plug for External Valve 4 for corrosion, dirt, or bent pins.

  2. Trace the wiring harness from the valve back to the control module to ensure there are no chafed wires or breaks.

  3. Perform a swap test by exchanging electrical connectors between Valve 3 and Valve 4. If the fault code changes to the Valve 3 circuit, the valve solenoid is faulty. If it remains on Valve 4, the issue is in the wiring harness or ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure by cycling the hydraulic levers/buttons.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the rear hydraulic remote block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical connector from External Hydraulic Valve 4. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner.

  4. Replace the Valve/Solenoid

If the diagnostic tests pointed to a failed valve, unbolt the faulty spool valve section from the hydraulic stack.

  5. Install New Seals

When installing the replacement valve or repair kit, ensure all O-rings and seals between the valve slices are new and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid.

  6. Reassemble and Torque

Bolt the new spool valve into the stack and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.4X.23 code from the system.

  8. Test Operation

Start the tractor, check for hydraulic leaks, and test the operation of Remote 4 using the cab controls.
