Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction in the 5th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). This indicates an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, short to power, or signal out of range) in the solenoid circuit, or occasionally a mechanical binding of the spool.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the #5 external hydraulic remote valve at the rear of the tractor for rub points, chafing, or pinched wires.

  2. Disconnect the electrical plug at the valve's solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil for Valve 5 and compare to OEM specifications to determine if the coil is open or shorted.

  4. Turn the key ON and verify that the ECU is sending the correct reference voltage to the connector, and ensure the ground circuit has good integrity.

  5. Swap the electrical connector with an adjacent working valve (e.g., Valve 4). If the fault moves to the new valve, the issue is in the wiring/ECU. If the fault stays at Valve 5, the issue is the solenoid or the valve itself.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the rear hydraulic valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during repair.

  3. Address Wiring Issues

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged connector or chafed wire, splice in a new repair pigtail or replace the damaged section of the harness.

  4. Replace the Solenoid Coil

    If the coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve cartridge, slide the old solenoid coil off, and install the replacement coil. Torque the retaining nut to OEM spec.

  5. Replace the Valve Assembly

    If the valve is mechanically stuck or suffering from internal failure, disconnect the hydraulic lines to Valve 5. Unbolt the tie-rods holding the hydraulic valve stack together, carefully remove the faulty #5 slice, and install the new spool valve section with new O-rings between the slices. Re-torque the stack tie-rods.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

    Reconnect the battery. Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (such as the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool or Jaltest) to the tractor's diagnostic port to clear the 0A.50.25 code. Start the tractor, check for leaks, and test the operation of the #5 remote valve.
