0A.51.27

Massey Ferguson 0A.51.27: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction associated with the 5th external hydraulic spool valve (rear remote valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem to the valve's solenoid, a mechanically stuck valve disrupting hydraulic fluid flow, or a pressure/flow irregularity within that specific hydraulic circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness, plug, and pins connecting to External Valve 5 for corrosion, fraying, or loose connections (electrical faults are a primary cause).

  2. Test the hydraulic response for signs of a stuck valve, such as sluggish response, delayed lifting, or requiring more effort to operate the remote.

  3. Check the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and quality, and inspect the hydraulic filter for heavy contamination (e.g., 70% clogged).

  4. Check if the system has been aerated (air in the lines), which can cause vibrations and spontaneous cylinder actions.

Repair steps

  1. Retrieve and Verify

Connect a compatible diagnostic tool to the tractor to confirm code 0A.51.27 is active and check for any secondary voltage or CAN frame errors.

  2. Resolve Electrical Faults

If the connector to Valve 5 is damaged or loose, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, reseat the connection, and repair any broken wires in the harness.

  3. Service the Hydraulics

If the hydraulic fluid is contaminated or the filter is past its 300–500 hour service interval, drain the fluid, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with clean OEM-spec UTTO fluid.

  4. Free or Replace the Valve

If the valve is mechanically stuck, you may attempt to manually actuate the valve to free it. If the valve body is damaged, scored, or the solenoid has failed completely, the spool valve assembly must be removed from the hydraulic block and replaced with a new unit.

  5. Clear Codes

Use the diagnostic interface device to clear the DTC from the system.

  6. Test

Run the tractor, warm up the hydraulic fluid, and operate an implement on the 5th remote to ensure smooth flow and that the code does not return.
