Check the cause
Retrieve and verify codes using a compatible diagnostic tool to check for secondary codes related to voltage or CAN bus communication.
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 5 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires.
Test the electrical spool slice solenoid for proper resistance and verify it is receiving the correct voltage signal from the ECU.
Check for mechanical binding to ensure the spool valve is not stuck due to contaminated hydraulic fluid or internal wear.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remotes.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts and protect the Autotronic ECU.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify Valve 5 (the 5th slice in the stack).
Remove the Faulty Component
If the issue is isolated to the electrical control head, unbolt the electric slice head unit/pilot pressure control from the valve body. If the entire spool valve slice is faulty, remove the tie rods holding the valve stack together and carefully extract the 5th spool valve slice.
Install the Replacement
Fit the new spool valve slice or electrical control head. If replacing the whole slice, ensure new O-rings/seals are installed between the valve slices to prevent leaks.
Reassemble and Reconnect
Torque the valve stack tie rods to the manufacturer's specification, reconnect the hydraulic lines, and plug in the electrical harness.
Programming / Calibration
If an electric spool slice is replaced, it must be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU using a dealer diagnostic terminal so the system recognizes the new valve.
