0A.5X.13

Massey Ferguson 0A.5X.13 – Implement/Hydraulic Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

The onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction in the 5th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power in the solenoid circuit), a communication error with the valve's pilot pressure control, or a mechanical blockage causing the valve to stick.

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and connectors leading to the #5 external hydraulic valve solenoid for rub points, corrosion, or disconnected pins

  2. Use a multimeter to check for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to power on the solenoid circuit, and measure the solenoid coil resistance

  3. Verify if the valve is mechanically stuck, as the system may block all valves as a safety precaution when this code is thrown

  4. Verify that the system is receiving adequate hydraulic pressure and that the hydraulic fluid level and filters are in good condition

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Reset

If the valves have been electronically blocked by the control unit due to the fault, first attempt to delete the error code from the dashboard control unit to unlock the valves. Test operation to see if the code returns.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or a corroded connector at the #5 valve, repair the harness or replace the pigtail connector.

  3. Replace Solenoid/Coil

If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil fails the resistance test, replace the solenoid coil on the #5 valve.

  4. Replace the Spool Slice

If the valve is internally damaged, leaking, or the integrated electronics have failed, the entire electric spool slice must be replaced.

  5. Programming

Note that if a new electric spool slice is installed on modern series, the new unit will need to be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's control unit using a dealer diagnostic tool.
