Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and electrical connectors going to External Valve 5. Connection problems are a primary trigger for these specific hydraulic valve codes.

  2. Inspect the valve block, quick couplers, and hoses for visible fluid leaks or pressure loss.

  3. Check if the valve is sticking or jamming due to internal wear or debris in the hydraulic fluid.

  4. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Contaminated fluid can cause valve aeration and erratic behavior. Ensure the hydraulic filter has been changed within its 300–500 hour service interval.

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the external hydraulic valve block area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  2. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical harness connected to the Valve 5 solenoid/slice. Inspect the pins for corrosion and clean if necessary.

  3. Remove the Valve

If the valve slice is deemed faulty, disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to Valve 5. Unbolt the specific spool slice from the hydraulic valve stack.

  4. Install the New Valve

Mount the replacement electric spool slice into the valve block. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and torque to OEM specifications.

  5. Reconnect and Program

Reconnect the electrical harness. Important: If replacing an electric spool slice on modern Massey Ferguson tractors, the new valve must be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU using a compatible diagnostic tool.

  6. Test the System

Top off the hydraulic fluid with OEM UTTO fluid, start the tractor, and cycle the #5 remote to bleed air from the system. Check for leaks and verify the fault code has cleared.
