0A.5X.25

Massey Ferguson 0A.5X.25 – Electro-Hydraulic Remote Control (EHRC) Lift ECU or Armrest ECU (AUTO 5 controller): External Hydraulic Valve 5 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the electro-hydraulic control circuit for the 5th external remote valve (spool valve). Typically an electrical fault at the valve's solenoid, such as an open circuit, a short circuit to earth, a short between cables, or a current level error preventing the valve from actuating properly.

Check the cause

  1. Locate External Hydraulic Valve 5 at the rear remote stack and visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve's solenoid for chafing, breaks, or pinched wires.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the valve and check for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture ingress.

  3. Use a multimeter to check for an open circuit or a short to ground on the solenoid wiring.

  4. Measure the resistance of the solenoid coil and compare it to OEM specifications to determine if the coil has failed internally.

  5. Temporarily swap the electrical connection with an adjacent known-good valve (e.g., Valve 4 or 6) to see if the fault code follows the valve solenoid or stays with the wiring harness/ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Ensure the tractor is turned off, the key is removed, and hydraulic pressure is fully relieved from the system.

  2. Repair or replace the damaged section of the harness and replace the connector pigtail if corroded.

Perform this if the diagnostic tests point to a wiring issue.

  3. Remove the retaining nut/screw holding the solenoid to the spool valve cartridge.

Perform this if the solenoid coil is faulty.

  4. Slide the old solenoid off the valve stem and install the replacement solenoid.

  5. Unbolt the valve slice from the hydraulic remote stack.

Perform this if the entire spool valve assembly is internally binding or mechanically failed (be prepared to catch residual hydraulic fluid).

  6. Install the new external hydraulic valve section.

Ensure all O-rings and seals between the valve slices are properly seated. Torque the tie-rod bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reconnect the electrical harness to the valve.

  8. Start the tractor, cycle the hydraulic remote using the cab controls, and check for leaks.

  9. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.5X.25 fault code from the ECU.
