0A.61.18

Massey Ferguson 0A.61.18 – Onboard diagnostic system: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a fault within the external hydraulic spool valve system, typically pointing to an electrical connection failure, a mechanically stuck spool, or a pressure-related fault specifically on remote valve number 6.

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic oil filter and transmission filter for blockages, which are primary causes of restricted flow.

  2. Inspect the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Dirty or contaminated oil can cause the spool valve to stick.

  3. Inspect quick-release couplers and hoses for blockages, damage, or wear that might restrict flow or cause pressure drops.

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and solenoid connector at External Valve 6 for corrosion, broken wires, or poor seating.

  5. Determine if the hydraulic response on Valve 6 is slow (restricted flow), weak (pressure/relief valve problem), or dead (electrical failure or completely stuck valve).

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Valve

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 6 on the rear remote valve stack.

  2. Service the Fluid/Filters

If the fluid is contaminated or the filter is past its 300–500 hour service interval, drain the system, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with clean UTTO fluid (e.g., 10W40).

  3. Clean/Free the Spool

If the valve is mechanically sticking, attempt to clean the valve body and free the spool.

  4. Replace the Valve/Solenoid

If the valve is leaking, the solenoid has failed electrically, or the spool is permanently damaged, remove the faulty slice/spool valve assembly and install a replacement.

  5. Clear the Code

Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to the tractor's interface port and clear the 0A.61.18 DTC.

  6. Test Operation

Run the tractor, warm up the hydraulic fluid, and test the remote valve with an implement to ensure proper pressure and flow.
