0A.61.20

Massey Ferguson 0A.61.20 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Hydraulic/Implement Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction associated with the 6th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve or electric spool slice), typically caused by an electrical connection problem, failure of the internal pilot pressure control, or a mechanical jam preventing proper actuation.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector plugging into External Valve 6 for corrosion, frayed wires, or loose pins

  2. Inspect the valve block and quick couplers for visible hydraulic fluid leaks, which can indicate blown seals

  3. Check the UTTO fluid level and condition for contamination or metal shavings that could cause the spool valve to stick

  4. Determine if the valve is mechanically stuck due to internal wear or debris making the electronic controls unresponsive

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all pressure from the system before beginning work.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the exterior of the hydraulic valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical harness from the faulty Valve 6 slice.

  4. Remove the Valve Slice

Unbolt the specific electric spool slice from the hydraulic valve block assembly.

  5. Replace Seals/Valve

If rebuilding, replace the internal O-rings and seals using an OEM repair kit. If the electronic solenoid or internal pilot pressure control has failed, install a completely new electric spool slice.

  6. Reassembly

Bolt the new or repaired valve slice back into the stack, ensuring all mating O-rings are properly seated. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. ECU Programming

If a new electric spool slice is installed, it must be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool.

  8. Test

Top off the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, and test the remote for proper operation and leak-free performance.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Electric Spool Slice (External Hydraulic Valve)

    3797234M6

Requires dealer programming to the tractor after installation. Replaces older revisions like 3797234M5, 3797234M4, 3797234M3.

  • Pilot Pressure Control for Electric Spool Valve

    R917008801

Often replaced if the valve head unit fails.

  • Spool Valve Repair Kit

    3176423M91

Contains necessary O-rings and seals for repairing the valve assembly.

  • Hydraulic Fluid

    UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil).
